Families Together

The UK Government’s restrictive and unfair rules prevent refugees from being reunited with many family members – anyone other than their partners or children under 18. The UK is one of only two countries in the EU that bans child refugees who arrive in the UK alone from bringing any relatives to join them, even their parents.

This desperately unfair situation is causing families and lone children untold suffering – it has to stop.

We are part of the Families Together coalition, campaigning to change these rules.  In March 2018, MPs from across the political divide voted in favour of a bill which proposed the necessary changes to reunite refugee families currently being kept apart. Thanks to thousands of our supporters like you who joined the campaign and wrote to their MPs, the bill passed with a fantastic majority of 131 MPs.

Frustratingly – a year later – nothing has changed. Despite the bill passing with an overwhelming majority, the Government has used red tape to block the bill from progressing.

This is why we need you more than ever to show that there is public support for reuniting refugee families in the UK.

What you can do

Lift the Ban

People seeking safety in our country are banned from working. They are unable to provide for themselves and their families and often left to live in poverty.14

Right now, right here in the UK, people seeking refugee status are banned from working whilst they wait months, and often years, for a decision on their asylum claim.

They are forced to survive on just £5.39 per day. Leaving them struggling to support themselves and their families, whilst the Government wastes the talents of thousands of people.

This is wrong. People who have risked everything to find safety should have the best chance of contributing to our society and integrating into our communities. This means giving people seeking asylum the right to work so that they can use their skills and live in dignity.
